 Ancestry.com
has begun the massive undertaking of scanning 24 million WWI Draft
Cards. The initial post contained 100,000 images from the state
of Pennsylvania. They will continue posting 100,000 images a week
until the project is complete. The draft cards are as detailed in
information as they are comprehensive in scope. Possible the most
exciting news is that Ancestry will not be making a new subscription
of this collection but rather will be adding this to the U.S. and
Canada Collection. They feel that the best way to promote this new
collection is by selling it as an added bonus to the U.S. and Canada
collection. This will be especially helpful for the first little
while when the bulk of the images are not yet complete.
Cards
include data on:
- Registrant's full name
- Age and birth date
- Home addres
- Citizenship status
- Birthplace
- Occupation and employer
- Family relationships
(marital status, children)
